Shades of Us at the Movies & BBQ Night

By Cynthia Umeh

On November 23, we had a nice experience at the Movies & BBQ festival: An Evening of Fun, Games, Barbecue, and Movies! The festival was organized by Motion Pictures International Film Festival in collaboration with ATW STUDIOS. The event was packaged by Kris Mokwunye.

It was a perfect blend of good vibes, great food, and amazing entertainment that brought people together for a night to remember.

The main attraction of the night was the 2024 thriller The Deliverance, directed by Lee Daniels. Starring Mo’Nique, Andra Day, and Glenn Close, the movie tells a powerful and haunting story inspired by true events. Set in America’s Deep South, it followed a mother’s fight to protect her family from supernatural forces and the weight of a dark legacy. Watching this intense film under the stars added an extra layer of excitement and made it a truly immersive experience for us.

Storytelling is at the heart of what we do at Shades of Us. Movies, like The Deliverance, have a unique way of sparking conversations, connecting people, and inspiring change. Beyond the thrills of the big screen, the barbecue and the friendly chatter with fellow movie lovers created an atmosphere of warmth and community that we were happy to be part of. Whether through film, food, or shared laughter, stories connect us in ways that words alone often can’t.

If you could not make it this time, do not worry—festivals like this are sure to come back bigger and better. Until then, keep enjoying the magic of storytelling, and follow Shades of Us as we continue to share stories that matter.
